This is a selection of work, including my recent assignments, engagements at BeaconZone and earlier mobile projects.

My focus has mainly been on helping companies integrate mobile technology in innovative, usually physical and challenging ways, rather than merely producing an abundance of screens that talk to servers.

Thermology Health Ltd

Spinout from the UK National Physical Laboratory (NPL) revolutionising health through thermal imaging.

Consultancy and Android-based proof of concept.

Royal Museums Greenwich (RMG)

RMG were exploring the use of AR on smartphones on the Cutty Sark. Apps were needed locate visitors within the ship so as to trigger audio, video and AR.

Android and iOS apps were developed to allow RMG staff to experiment with positioning and Bluetooth beacon parameters.

Ultimate Sport Service Aps

Ultimate Sport Service, based in Denmark, is a world leading service provider for online entries, timing and results services, that help event directors around the world.

An iOS app was developed to read data from Wahoo Bluetooth fitness trackers.

Memoride

Belgium-based Memoride, improves peoples’ quality of life by keeping them physically, cognitively and socially active. To achieve this, Memoride offers a personalised and meaningful activity called ‘cycling through your past’.

Worked on an Android tablet app which reads Bluetooth sensor data from the exercise bicycle.

Beaconzone Ltd

Developed a Covid Social Distancing System based on a rugged Android device and custom firmware in wristband Bluetooth beacons.

Used on one of the largest construction sites in the UK which I can’t name due to NDA.

Malvern Instruments Ltd

Malvern manufacture scientific instruments to help their customers better understand and shape everything from proteins, metals and polymers to the soil and air around us.

Designed and developed an Android-based stock taking system with custom, branded Bluetooth beacons.

TagSmart

TagSmart offers an all-round complete art authentication solutions, designed for artists, collectors and sellers.

Created Android Bluetooth beacon-triggered art apps for TagSmart, used in galleries such as Saatchi Gallery London, Frieze London and Folkestone Triennial.

IRISS Medical Technologies Ltd

A medical device used by hospital consultant ophthalmologists and opticians worldwide.

Developed a complex Android app that takes in high resolution (15MP) camera images and image processes them to provide eye diagnosis and measurement.

Also created a simpler iOS version that was distributed on the Apple App Store.

This was a long term project started in 2011 that evolved into a sophisticated, patented, ISO13485 accredited product distributed Worldwide.

IRISS Medical has since been acquired by MST, a Halma PLC company.

Vizzbook Ltd

Vizzbook produce a single-use Android-based tablet that provides a visitor book for the hospitality sector. The tablet is contained within in a cardboard book-like wrapper that’s branded for each Vizzbook client.

I developed a ‘kiosk’ style app that uses flip-paging to simulate moving through pages. It also allows users to operate the camera to add photos to visitor comments that can also uploaded to Facebook.

Movanta Ltd

Movanta created a white-label offers and loyalty app used by Movanta’s many clients.

The project involved porting of an app that was already available on iOS. The app was fully skinnable with features configurable from the server. It also used geofencing, push messaging, barcoding and mapping.

Movanta is no longer in business and the CEO has since become Global Head of Mobile at HSBC Bank.

MyDrive Solutions Ltd

Car driving telematics mapping application in use by top insurance companies. It collects location data and scores the driver which, in turn, can allow the end-user to have lower insurance premiums.

Work involved creating a new variant of the app for Confused.com while also fixing and improving the core library used by all variants.

MyDrive has since been acquired by the Generali Insurance Group.

Dot Origin Ltd

Reseller and solutions provider for RFID, NFC and Bluetooth products.

Worked on an Android app that works with Dot Origin’s DTAG100 Bluetooth sender. Unlike other typical iBeacons, the app not only detects the presence of the DTAG100 but also connects to it to obtain configured information.

Under NDA Ltd

An Android tablet-based app was created for a UK hardware manufacturer related to the capture, display and Ethernet network discovery of photographic images.
